Jordan Spieth recently compared his golf swing to smoking chicken. He admits he’s average at both, rating himself a “15 handicap” on the smoker. But the analogy struck him while working on his swing last fall: the temperature climbs quickly, then plateaus—just like his game. “It’s close. It’s producing the right stuff. But it’s not quite consistent enough to contend week in and week out,” he said.
Could this week at the PGA Championship be different? If Spieth wins, he’d become the seventh man to complete the career grand slam, and at roughly 80-1 odds, he’d deliver a nice return for bettors. It would be his 10th attempt since winning the Masters and U.S. Open in 2015 and the Open Championship in 2017.
With the year’s second major set at Aronimink, our staff has made their picks for who will hoist the trophy. Whether you’re in a low-stakes office pool or placing legal bets, here’s where our money is.
**Josh Berhow:** Cameron Young (+1,200). The top of the odds board feels thin with Rory, Scottie, and Cam Young playing so well. I’ll take Young, whose Sunday 74 at the Truist was just an outlier.
**James Colgan:** Brooks Koepka (+4,000). A major on a big, burly Northeast course? Perfect for Koepka, whose game has shown sneaky signs of life.
**Dylan Dethier:** Cameron Young (+1,200). It’s Cam Young. His best stuff has been on display from the Ryder Cup to the Players to the Masters. An old-school Northeast course screams Cameron Young contender. His T4 at Oakmont and Ryder Cup statement were signs. Here he comes.
**Jack Hirsh:** Cameron Young (+1,200). He got his first PGA Tour win at a classic Donald Ross course, so another at Aronimink wouldn’t shock me. It would be a satisfying peak to his current heater.
