Madness in the Bundesliga. Even though they are already champions, Kompany’s side refuse to take their foot off the gas. A 45-minute nap almost cost them a historic thrashing, but one half was enough for Bayern to win a thrilling match and continue adding to a record that seems untouchable. With this team, you never know.
The match started as expected, with Bayern dominating possession and looking solid against Mainz’s counterattacks. But defensive fragility soon emerged due to heavy rotation. In the 15th minute, after a poor corner clearance by Urbig, Kohr unleashed a volley that left the Bayern keeper helpless.
Urbig made several impressive saves in the following minutes, but Bayern suffered against a dangerous Mainz side on the break. When Guerreiro gifted the ball to the opposition in midfield during a transition, Mainz capitalized. A quick counter led to another Urbig save, but Nebel scored the second for the hosts.
The nightmare wasn’t over. On another devastating counter, Becker slotted home after Urbig’s save. It was a massacre — a dire sight for Bayern ahead of their clash with PSG. To turn things around, Kompany brought on Kane and Olise at halftime.
Bayern improved, and Nicolas Jackson pulled one back, gradually unleashing their firepower. The game then quieted down, but Olise sparked magic with 15 minutes left, cutting inside and curling an unstoppable left-footed shot.
Soon after, chaos erupted at Mewa Arena. In two minutes, Bayern completed a champion’s comeback. First Musiala scored after a series of deflections where Batz was shaky, then Kane netted from another rebound off the Mainz goalkeeper. From 3-0 to 3-4 in 45 minutes.
